G Boys Are Just Honest

Read this slowly. Let the words arrive before you decide what they mean.

E. My besty, says heterosexuality would improve immediately if everyone admitted they were performing constantly. Honestly he may be correct. We spent almost two hours after school sitting near the station drinking terrible vending machine coffee while he analyzed humanity with the confidence of a tiny sarcastic philosopher. E. is one of those people who enters rooms already completely himself. No hesitation. No apology. Which in Milan honestly counts as a revolutionary act.

Today he watched two girls pretending not to notice two boys pretending not to stare at them and said: “Straight people deserve exhaustion.” I nearly died. The thing about E. is that he notices social theater instantly. Especially with girls. “You girls say ‘nothing’s wrong’ like mafia negotiators,” he told me while stealing my gum… Then five minutes later: “Also gay boys are not less dramatic, we’re just honest about it.”

Fair.

People at school act strange around him sometimes. Not openly cruel exactly. More confused that someone our age could already know himself so clearly. Teenagers forgive almost anything except certainty. Meanwhile E. discusses boys openly, critiques everyone’s clothes with surgical precision, and somehow still gets better grades than most of the football idiots in class.

Nature loves irony.

HONESTY.
