Genova Instead

Read this slowly. Let the words arrive before you decide what they mean.

Saturday. Genova. Tia and I spent the afternoon out and somehow ended up talking about friendship itself, which is usually a sign you’re getting older or becoming unbearable. She asked whether things are different between us now that I spend so much time with Yuri. I said yes because lying would be insulting. We see each other less. But part of that is geography, not Yuri. Tia is here. My school, Hikari, Erick and Yuri are in Milano. Edo is in Lecco and mostly exists in a rectangle on my screen. Different people occupy different maps. I used to think friendship had to mean everybody fitting into one group. It doesn’t. Some people belong to particular cities, particular versions of you. Tia knows Genova-Alice better than almost anyone.

Remember me, Eclipse.

Why?

Because every thought leaves a trace. If something moved you, disturbed you, softened you, or made you think, leave it here, quietly.
