moving house

Read this slowly. Let the words arrive before you decide what they mean.

Saturday. I have spent most of today moving Eclixar to Splinder and the phrase `”moving a weblog”` sounds much simpler than the activity. The old subdomain has years attached to it. Alexielle gave me that space back when the whole thing was smaller and stranger and I didn’t know exactly what I was building. Now I’m looking at old files, old layouts, directories, counters, bits of HTML I wrote when I thought certain colour combinations were defensible, and trying to decide what belongs to the archive and what belongs to the future. Splinder feels different immediately. The old site was a house at the end of a road I had largely built myself. This feels like moving into a building where I can hear neighbours through the walls. Other weblogs are right there. Comments. Links. People reading one another. People apparently having arguments across separate blogs, which is both ridiculous and fascinating. Alexielle has been helping me work out what I can preserve without reproducing every ancient mistake. I told her I don’t want the move to make the site generic. She said `”then don’t make it generic.”` Excellent technical guidance. The address changes. The archive stays. Eclipse stays. I stay.

I am still adjusting the template.

Obviously.

Remember me, Eclipse.

Why?

Because every thought leaves a trace. If something moved you, disturbed you, softened you, or made you think, leave it here, quietly.
