Old Internet / New Internet

Read this slowly. Let the words arrive before you decide what they mean.

Wednesday. I don’t think the Internet changed overnight, obviously, but Splinder has made me notice the difference between having a homepage and having a weblog in a community of weblogs. The old web felt like exploration. You found a page, followed links, signed a guestbook, maybe exchanged mail, maybe never found that person again. Here people return. They answer. They notice if you don’t write. They link yesterday’s argument to today’s post. It feels less like publishing pages and more like occupying a neighbourhood.

This will either be wonderful or unbearable.

Probably both.

Remember me, Eclipse.

Why?

Because every thought leaves a trace. If something moved you, disturbed you, softened you, or made you think, leave it here, quietly.
