Harder tonight. Somebody I barely know asked if I `”really”` listen to hardcore or just go because my friends do. I nearly asked him for an oral examination so I could receive my certification. Instead I named enough records and DJs that he changed the subject.
Why is this still surprising to people? I understand that subcultures develop visual codes, but surely after a while everybody has met one person who doesn’t dress like her record collection. Also, what exactly should I wear to prove I like hardcore? A warning label?
