Fur and Diamonds

Read this slowly. Let the words arrive before you decide what they mean.

# My mom’s clients come wrapped in fur and diamonds

Tonight the apartment became a showroom again. Not officially. Officially it was a “small holiday gathering.” Which in adult language means: wealthy people drinking champagne while pretending not to inspect each other. Mom spent the entire afternoon preparing the apartment with military precision. Candles positioned exactly. Flowers corrected repeatedly. Jazz music low enough to sound accidental. She wore black silk and Poison tonight, which means psychologically dangerous elegance. The clients arrived wrapped in fur, leather gloves, cashmere, diamonds, and invisible competition. One woman air kissed everybody while wearing enough jewelry to finance a small country. Another spent twenty minutes casually mentioning Paris. Nobody asked.

The men all spoke softly in that particular rich person way where volume control becomes a form of power. I floated around refilling glasses and observing people scientifically as usual. Honestly adult luxury culture fascinates me because nobody admits what they really want.

Nobody says:
“Please envy me.”
“Please admire my life.”
“Please reassure me I matter.”

Instead they discuss watches and skiing and architecture while silently evaluating each other’s marriages. At one point I caught Mam watching everyone from across the room with the same expression she uses while designing jewelry. Calm. Precise. Analytical. That’s when I realized she studies people the same way I do. She’s just more elegant about it.

After midnight the apartment looked exhausted.

Half-empty champagne glasses.
Perfume trapped in warm air.
Lipstick marks.
Diamonds locked away again.
Flowers beginning to collapse softly under the lamps.

Luxury always looks lonelier after guests leave.

Remember me,
Eclipse

Why?

Because every thought leaves a trace. If something moved you, disturbed you, softened you, or made you think, leave it here, quietly.
