the office downstairs

Read this slowly. Let the words arrive before you decide what they mean.

nothing says “friday night” like having to cross a room full of adults discussing work while you’re wearing blue eyeshadow. #

Mom had colleagues here again. -.-

I came home and there were coats in the hallway, papers on the table, coffee cups, serious conversation and Angel perfume floating over the whole operation. I like her colleagues. This needs to be stated before I sound like a monster. They’re nice. The problem is that when three or four adults are sitting in your living room discussing work, the entire house becomes their meeting room and you become a person accidentally living inside an office. I tried to go upstairs without being noticed. Impossible.

`”Alice!”`

There it is.

One of them asked about school. Another asked about the maturità. Another asked what I want to do afterwards. I stood there holding my bag thinking I had somehow walked into a press conference. Mom gave me the look that means answer properly. I answered properly. Then escaped upstairs, closed the door, put Christina on, showered, got ready and had to cross the living room again looking completely different. One of them laughed and said, `”Ah, now we understand why you were in a hurry.”`

Yes.

Exactly.

Goodnight, board of directors.

Remember me, Eclipse.

Why?

Because every thought leaves a trace. If something moved you, disturbed you, softened you, or made you think, leave it here, quietly.
